Plumbing is the everyday work that keeps water arriving where it should and leaving where it should: taps and mixers, valves and stopcocks, pipework and joints, leaks and drips, WCs and cisterns, and the supply and waste connections that appliances and bathrooms rely on. Most of it is unglamorous. All of it matters the moment it stops working.

We are a family-run business. Dan and Dean are co-owners, and their sons Owen and Jack work in the business alongside them. It means the person who prices your job is the person who does it, and that continuity is what most of our reviews are actually about.

This service is for homeowners who need a job doing properly rather than temporarily: a tap that has dripped for months, a leak under a sink that has been managed with a bowl, a valve that no longer shuts off, pipework exposed during other work that needs rerouting, or the plumbing connections for a new appliance or bathroom fitting. If the work turns out to be part of your heating system, we cover that too, heating and plumbing are the same trade in this business.

You should call sooner rather than later where there is water escaping, where a stopcock or isolation valve will not shut, where there is any sign of damp appearing on a ceiling or wall, or where you can hear water running with everything turned off. Those are the jobs that get more expensive by the week.

Why it matters

## Why small plumbing jobs get expensive

A dripping tap is the classic example of a problem that looks trivial. It wastes hot water you have already paid to heat, it marks the basin or sink, and the washer or cartridge that is failing does not repair itself. The job costs the same in six months' time, except by then there may also be limescale damage and a stained surface to deal with.

Concealed leaks are worse because they do their damage before they announce themselves. Water tracks along joists and pipe runs and emerges somewhere other than the fault, so by the time a stain appears on a ceiling the water has been present for a long time. What began as a joint has become plasterboard, paint, flooring, and sometimes electrics.

There is the emergency problem too. If you have never checked that your stopcock turns, you will find out at the worst possible moment. The difference between a burst pipe that is isolated in thirty seconds and one that is not is the difference between a wet floor and a room that has to be rebuilt.

And there is the quality of the fix itself. Plumbing work hidden behind a panel or under a floor is work nobody inspects. A joint that was rushed is a joint that will be found later by somebody else, usually because it has failed.

## The plumbing work we take on
Domestic plumbing covers a wide range of jobs. These are the ones we are called for most.

### Taps, mixers and washers
Dripping and stiff taps, failed ceramic cartridges, worn washers and mixers that have lost their seal. Replacement is often straightforward, but access under a sink or basin is frequently the harder half of the job, and older fittings can be seized onto pipework that is itself past its best. We carry out the work with the surfaces protected and the area left dry.

### Leaks and pipework
Weeping joints, split pipework, corroded runs and connections that have been disturbed by other work. The first task is tracing the leak to its actual source rather than the point where the water appears, because water travels along joists and pipe runs. We repair or replace the affected section in the appropriate material, whether that is copper or modern plastic barrier pipe.

### Valves, stopcocks and isolation
Being able to isolate water quickly is the single most useful thing in a house. Old stopcocks seize, gate valves fail, and many properties have no isolation valves at all on individual fittings. Replacing a seized stopcock and adding isolation valves to appliances and basins turns a future emergency into a minor inconvenience.

### WCs, cisterns and waste
Continuously running cisterns, failed flush and fill valves, leaking pan connectors and blocked or badly falling waste runs. A cistern that runs continuously wastes a surprising volume of water and is usually an inexpensive component rather than a new suite.

### Appliance and bathroom connections
Supply and waste connections for washing machines, dishwashers, basins, baths and showers, including the isolation valves that make future replacement simple. Done correctly at the point of installation, these are the connections nobody ever has to think about again.

### Where plumbing meets heating
Radiator valves, leaking radiators, system pressure problems and pipework associated with the heating system sit in the same trade.
