## What radiator installation involves
Whether it is a single replacement, a set of designer panels across a whole house, heat added to an extension or a heated towel rail in a new bathroom, the job is the same in principle: work out the heat the room actually needs, pick a radiator that delivers it, run the pipework neatly, and balance the system so one room does not steal from another.

Sizing is where most installations are won or lost. A radiator that is too small will never warm the room whatever the boiler does, and one that is too large makes the room uncomfortable and the system inefficient. We size against the room, its windows and its exposure, not against whatever was there before.

Heated towel rails are part of the same work and usually go in as part of a bathroom installation. They need the right pipework and valves to heat properly rather than sitting lukewarm at the end of a run.

Why it matters

## Why the wrong radiator never gets fixed by turning the boiler up

A room that never gets warm enough is usually an undersized or badly positioned radiator, not a weak boiler. Turning the flow temperature up heats every other room harder and costs you money without solving anything.

An unbalanced system produces the same complaint in reverse: the rooms nearest the boiler roast while the far end of the house stays cool. Balancing is a free adjustment that plenty of installations never receive.

Old radiators also hold the sludge that damages boilers, so swapping them without cleaning the system simply moves the debris around.

## Radiators and towel rails in more detail
The practical questions that come up when people change radiators.

### Sizing and position
Output is decided by the room's volume, its windows, its external walls and how it is used. A north-facing living room with large glazing needs considerably more than a small internal bedroom of the same floor area.

Position matters too: a radiator under a window counters the cold draught coming off the glass, while one hidden behind a sofa puts the heat into the furniture.

### Valves and controls
Thermostatic valves let each room hold its own temperature rather than following the hallway thermostat, which is the cheapest efficiency upgrade in most homes.

Whichever valves you choose, the lockshield side has to be balanced afterwards: that is the step that decides whether the far rooms ever warm up.

### Heated towel rails
A towel rail warms towels and takes the chill off a bathroom, but it rarely provides the full heat a bathroom needs on its own. We size it honestly and tell you if the room needs more.

Where the rail is part of a wider bathroom installation, we run the pipework at first fix so nothing is chased in afterwards.

Can you fit a radiator where there isn't one?Usually yes. We look at the nearest pipework at the free survey and tell you exactly what running a new circuit involves.

Do you fit designer and vertical radiators?Yes, column, panel, vertical and designer radiators, all sized so the room still reaches temperature.

Will you balance the system afterwards?Always. Balancing is part of the job, not an extra.

Do I need a power flush at the same time?If the system water is dirty, cleaning it first protects both the new radiators and the boiler. We will tell you honestly whether yours needs it.
