## What shower installation involves
Fitting a shower is as much about what feeds it as what hangs on the wall. We check the available pressure and hot water capacity first, then specify and install a shower that will perform on that supply, mixer, electric or pumped, in an existing bathroom or a brand new shower room.

The installation itself covers the pipework, the valve, the enclosure or tray connection, the waste and the sealing. Each of those is a place where a rushed job shows up later as a leak or a shower that never quite works.

Where the supply itself is the limitation, we will tell you at survey stage rather than fit something that disappoints you, and point you at the fix: usually an unvented cylinder or a water main upgrade.

Why it matters

## Why a new shower head does not fix a bad shower

Weak flow, temperature that swings when a tap is opened elsewhere, and a shower that runs cold partway through are supply problems. Changing the fitting changes nothing.

A tray or enclosure that was not sealed and supported correctly leaks slowly into the floor, and the first sign is usually a stain on a ceiling below rather than water in the bathroom.

Electric showers add an electrical dimension: the supply has to be right for the unit's rating, which is not something to improvise.

## Shower installation in more detail
Choosing the right shower for the system you have.

### Mixer, electric or pumped
A mixer shower takes hot and cold from your existing supply and performs only as well as that supply allows. On a good combi or an unvented cylinder that is excellent; on a low-pressure gravity system it is not.

Electric showers heat water on demand, which makes them independent of your hot water supply but limits flow. Pumped showers boost a gravity system where pressure is the problem.

### Pressure and flow
Pressure and flow are different things, and most shower disappointments come from confusing them. We measure both at survey stage.

### Part of a bigger job
A shower is often installed as part of a wider bathroom installation, which is the cheapest time to do it because the walls and floor are already open.
